Dr. Pierre Tariot, director of Banner Alzheimer’s Institute, is board-certified in internal medicine and geriatric psychiatry.

He received intensive training in developing new treatments for Alzheimer’s disease at the National Institutes of Health. He went on to spend 20 years as a professor at the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York, where he directed a program dedicated to the care and study of those with Alzheimer’s. In 2006, he joined Dr. Eric Reiman to launch Banner Alzheimer’s Institute and serve as a research professor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine.

He is a fellow of the Gerontological Society of America, distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and member of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology. He also is a past chair of the Behavioral Pathology Committee of the National Institute on Aging’s Consortium to Establish a Registry for Alzheimer’s Disease.

Dr. Tariot has investigated and lectured extensively on multiple aspects of diagnosis and therapy for dementia and Alzheimer’s as well as recognition and management of behavioral disturbances in dementia. He has devoted his career to helping patients and families cope with the effects of dementia and is a recognized leader in the development of new Alzheimer’s treatments. He has published hundreds of scientific articles, is a widely sought-after speaker and consultant, and has won numerous awards for his service and research.
